BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â The number of children contracting COVID-19 in the U.S. is now accounting for more than a fifth of new coronavirus cases in states that release data by age, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, last year it was at 3%.
This is a rising proportion of cases in America where more than 100 million adults are fully vaccinated.
Pfizer has given nearly 3,000 vaccine doses to children between 12 and 15.

KERN COUNTY, Calif. â The distance learning struggles continued at schools within the Kern High School District, with a 14% increase of students who received failing grades in the fall of 2020, and now the Kern High School District s board president is reacting to the news.
Jeff Flores, KHSD board member president, said he wasn t happy about the increase of failing students and that this wasn t a big surprise when considering all struggles, we ve seen students experience during the pandemic. However, he says there may be some reprieve for those students.
KHSD slated to receive $101 million from the state and federal governments
The Kern High School District is set to receive $101 million dollars in CARES funding in total from the state and federal governments. 23ABCâs Kristin Vartan has the details on where that money is going.

The Kern High School District is not only the largest school district in Kern County, but the largest high school district in the state, with 40,000 students.
Thatâs why the $101 million in CARES funds theyâre slated to receive from the state and federal governments combined, KHSD trustee Jeff Flores said, matter.
The steady drumbeat of support to get more water flowing in the Kern River through Bakersfield continued Tuesday at the State Water Resources Control Board.
During the public comment portion of the meeting three speakers from Bakersfield and Kern Countyâs political realm urged board members to finally hear â and grant â a decade-old petition by the City of Bakersfield to appropriate water on the river to run through the heart of town.
âFor too long, the Kern River has been a barren, unutilized resource left to desolate conditions,â said Jeff Flores, chief of staff for District 3 Kern County Supervisor Mike Maggard. âA dry riverbed strewn with homeless camps and tumbleweeds serves no one well.â
