About 2:10 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2021, Louisiana State Police Troop D Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 383 just south of Village Cemetery Road in Jefferson Davis Parish.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2002 Dodge pickup truck, driven by 18-year-old Hunter Joseph Pelican of Kinder, was traveling north on LA 383 at a high rate of speed when he ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a mailbox before traveling back onto the roadway and striking another mailbox on the opposite side of the road. The Dodge rolled over several times before coming to rest on the side of the roadway.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Authorities say a suspect was arrested Tuesday night following a 45-minute police chase through Jeff Davis and Calcasieu parishes involving multiple agencies, according to Louisiana State Police.
Sgt. James Anderson says Louisiana State Police Troop D assisted the Welsh Police Department in the pursuit that began near Iowa and ended in Lake Charles on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
Thomas Verkler, 34, was arrested for speeding, failure to signal, reckless operation, aggravated flight from an officer, and aggravated assault on an officer. He also faces possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges after a search of the vehicle.

From the moment she could read, Rosa Castille has been an avid reader.

The longtime elementary school teacher and Louisiana native has left her mark on Colony Bend Elementary School in Sugar Land through generations of students. Castille was recognized as Fort Bend ISDâs Elementary Teacher of the Year on April 13.Â
This week, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards announced that the state of Louisiana has received approximately $216 million to be allocated for road and infrastructure projects throughout the state. This is part of the $1.4 trillion 2020 Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act passed by Congress last year.
