MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Montgomery Public Schools system is moving ahead with the process or renaming three high schools that are associated with people connected to the Confederacy.

JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, MISS. (WDAM) - A horrible car accident shook the county of Jefferson Davis when it took the life of one of their most beloved.
Cindy Daley was known in her community as “Aunt Cindy” and her life was tragically taken from them on the morning of Feb. 6. She was killed in a car accident while on her way to do what she loved to do, care for others.

Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West announced that Brandon Howard, director of bands at Jefferson Davis High School, will join the Huntingdon College Band Program as associate director of bands, working with Huntingdon’s director of bands, Dr. Rusty Logan. He will begin with the program immediately and move to full-time status June 1.
“Brandon Howard will bring a new perspective to the Marching Scarlet and Grey,” said Dr. Logan. “Under his direction, the JD band soared to national notice and acclaim. He will be a great addition to our band program.”
“We look forward to the new dimension of performance Mr. Brandon Howard will bring to the Huntingdon Band Program,” said President West. “Mr. Howard brings more than 15 years of experience as a music educator and performer. He clearly loves music and loves working with students his enthusiasm is contagious, and his results are well-known.”
Alabama teachers speak out as four more teachers die of COVID-19 this week
On Thursday, Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) piano teacher Leslye Ames, 49, became the latest educator to die from COVID-19 in the Alabama capital. “America’s Got Talent” is looking for performers for its next season, and you don’t have to leave home to audition.
Hopefuls for Season 16 can submit video auditions to the NBC reality series or register for one of the virtual open call dates set for Jan. 23 through Feb. 8. If you live in the Southeast, the virtual open call is set for Wednesday, Jan. 27. Eligibility requirements for the show are posted here.
