Lupis named chief deputy of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department

CHARLES TOWN Lt. Victor Lupis has been tapped by Jefferson County Sheriff Tom Hansen to step into the role of chief deputy for the department.
Lupis, a 19-year veteran of the department, now serves as the top assistant to the sheriff in leading the 34-officer department.
“Chief Deputy Lupis is already doing an exemplary job,” Hansen said in a recent interview. “In every phase, he is the consummate chief deputy.”

PINSON, Ala. (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Sheriffâs Office is investigating after a man was struck and killed on Highway 79 South in Pinson Wednesday evening.
Authorities have identified the man as 50-year-old Rhett Wayne Yager.
Deputies responded around 6:45 p.m. According to the sheriffâs office, Yager stepped into the path of a vehicle traveling south on Highway 79 near Dollar General. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives continue their investigation. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with authorities.
A man who escaped from jail in Jefferson County is behind bars again.
Sheriff Zena Stephens told KFDM in Beaumont that Robert Lake, 38, who escaped from the Jefferson County Jail complex late last week was captured on Saturday morning on Cable Street, just north of Downtown Beaumont after he jumped out of a stolen truck and attempted to run across Interstate 10.
Stephens said lake, who was being held on felony probation violation, escaped from the jail complex on Highway 69 shortly after 5:00 on Friday when he climbed onto the roof of the jail and then jumped over a fence near the visitation area.
