Twenty years after Columbine, the world is still grappling with the consequences of the mass shooting, perhaps none more so than Sue Klebold, the mother of one of the mass murderers. Klebold was in Rochester Tuesday, June 11 to give the keynote address for this year’s Power of the Purse, a community fundraiser, at the Rochester International Event Center.

Virginia Bus Drivers Who Attended Trump Rally Sue Over Suspension January 15, 2021 Two West Virginia school bus drivers who were suspended for attending a rally for President Donald Trump in the nation’s capital have been cleared of wrongdoing following hearings, an attorney said Wednesday. Attorney John Bryan, who is representing the employees in a separate lawsuit against the Jefferson County School District, said one employee was cleared Tuesday and the other on Wednesday. No evidence was presented against them, Bryan said. Bryan said he is still proceeding with the federal lawsuit against school Superintendent Bondy Shay Gibson. Bryan is representing bus drivers Tina Renner and Pamela McDonald. The lawsuit said Renner and McDonald’s actions were protected under the First Amendment when they traveled last week to Washington to support Trump.

Jefferson County Teachers Protest A Planned Return To School, Citing Safety Worries

Teachers are asking the district to postpone in-person learning plans over COVID-19 safety concerns. Teachers in the Jefferson County School District said Wednesday that they are concerned about the district’s plan to educate elementary students in-person. The district plans to begin returning students to school buildings on Jan. 19 and will resume remote learning only if the district moves to the most severe level on Colorado’s COVID-19 dial framework.  “School health and safety is community health and safety,” said Brooke Williams, president of the Jefferson County Education Association, the Jeffco Schools teachers union. “Schools do not operate in a bubble.” Williams led a protest of several dozen teachers outside Jefferson County School District headquarters Wednesday.
