Ministry of Local Government has ordered Lilongwe City Council (LCC) to demolish the sculpture statue at parliament roundabout saying it adds no value to the beauty of Lilongwe city.
Speaking on Monday during a visit of projects being carried out by LCC, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Harima Daudi said the sculpture statue at parliament roundabout is of substandard quality hence it needs to be removed.
âThe statue which was set at the roundabout near parliament building is not good and has got no use and on top of that it is there not to make the Lilongwe city beautiful, hence as a Ministry, we have advised the Mayor of Lilongwe city and other officials from Lilongwe City Council to demolish the it,â Daudi said.

The government has said it is not pleased with the progress of renovation of Lilongwe City Council Rest house which has been closed for at least 15 years.
A visit by the Deputy Minister of Local Government Halima Daudi to the project site on Monday indicated that the construction works are delaying and substandard.
Meanwhile, she asked the council to stay focused and act accordingly on issues concerning revenue mobilization and collection.
âGovernment is losing a lot of money in form of revenue mobilization and collection, worse still, the project site does not look attractive anymore.
âI urge the council to take a bold step in ensuring that all the contractors are completive enough. Those that fail to impress should have their contracts terminated”, said the Deputy Minister.

The deputy minister said she toured some facilities in the city on Monday, including the sculpture, saying it is substandard and an eyesore.
“This things it there not to make the Lilongwe city beautiful. Nobody knows what that thing stands for and it makes the city look ugly, hence as a Ministry, we have advised the Mayor of Lilongwe city and other officials from Lilongwe City Council to demolish it,” Daudi said.
