National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day By Rick Keller May 15, 2021 | 3:10 PM Sioux Falls, SD (KELO.com) – Today is National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, and marks the official end of National Police Week. The Sioux Falls Police Department this morning thanked the people of Sioux Falls on social media for their continued support. Governor Kristi Noem ordered flags to be flown at full-staff until sundown today following a proclamation from the White House stating flags should fly at full-staff. President John F. Kennedy designated May 15th as Peace Officer’s Memorial Day in 1962. The day honors law enforcement officers killed or injured in the line of duty. Nationally, 285 law enforcement officers were killed in the line-of-duty in 2020.

West Nile Protection Grant

May 9, 2021 | 5:59 PM Pierre, SD  (Kelo.com) – South Dakota cities, counties, and tribes have until June 1st to apply or reapply for state grant funding to help control mosquitos and prevent the spread of the West Nile virus. South Dakota has had 2,617 cases of West Nile since 2001 and 46 deaths. $500,000 is available for this grant program. Awards will be based on the population of the applying jurisdiction and its number of human cases through 2020. Apply for the grant at http://westnile.sd.gov.

May 1, 2021 3:47 PM Madison, SD (Kelo.com) – The train is back on track at Prairie Village in Madison. The first train rides of the season will be tomorrow (May 2nd) at 2pm, as part of opening day. You can take a ride on the railroad all season long on Saturday afternoons. Scheduled events in June at Prairie Village include the Prairie Village Pageant, Northern Bull Riding Tour, and Railroad Day.
