People will be able to go online starting Tuesday to review PennDOT’s plans for an $8.3 million project along Route 228 in Buffalo and Clinton townships.
The project on Route 228, also known as Ekastown Road, includes improvements such as resurfacing and widening the road from a roundabout at Saxonburg Boulevard to 300 feet north of Sarver Road.
The road now consists of 10-foot-wide lanes and 3-foot-wide shoulders, which will be widened to 11-foot-wide lanes and 4-foot-wide shoulders.
Other upgrades will include improving drainage, signs and pavement markings. PennDOT plans to acquire small strips of land in public rights of way and relocate some utilities.
Fire crews responded to a house fire in Vandergrift on Tuesday evening.
Vandergrift Fire Company No. 1 confirmed they sent crews to battle a blaze at 309 Elm Street just before 9 p.m.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said the “fire is knocked down” and crews remained at the scene.
There were no ambulance transports, according to the dispatcher.

The Pittsburgh brand continues to grow in popularity as does Steel City Clothing, a one-stop shop for all things ‘Burgh, be it socks, hats, hoodies and T-shirts.
Steel City Clothing, located Downtown, sells clothing showcasing an array of Pittsburgh staples ranging from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and Heinz to pierogis and the city’s favorite sports teams.
“We specialize in the history and culture of Pittsburgh and everything that makes Pittsburgh what it is,” manager Krista Marple said. “It’s cool to show what Pittsburgh’s all about.”
Walmart and Sam’s Club will begin offering covid-19 vaccines at select pharmacies beginning next week.
Four local Sam’s Club stores located in Hempfield, Monroeville, Trinity Point and West Mifflin are among participating locations.
Select locations in 22 states are slated to begin administering the vaccines through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program beginning late next week, according to a Walmart press release.
“Sam’s Club will receive vaccine allocation in select clubs and will vaccinate both members and nonmembers who are eligible within their jurisdiction,” said Laura Ladd Poff, senior manager for corporate communications.
All appointments are currently booked, Poff said. As pharmacies receive more vaccines, more appointments will open up in their scheduling system.

As covid-19 vaccination efforts ramp up, health experts are urging people not to skimp on mitigation measures even after they receive the vaccine.
Optimism about the vaccine is warranted, but that doesn’t mean vaccinated people should disregard mitigation efforts like mask wearing and social distancing, said Dr. Graham Snyder, UPMC’s medical director of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology.
