New council members sworn in to the Willmar City Council

WILLMAR Three new Willmar City Council members and one returning member were sworn into office at the start of Monday s council meeting, the first of the year. The meeting was held remotely due to COVID-19.

WILLMAR The new year is a time of change and that was true during Monday s Willmar City Council meeting. The eight-person council welcomed three new members and one returning member, even as COVID-19 forced the meeting online.
First meeting of 2021 for the Willmar City Council to be held Jan. 11
The Willmar City Council will meet for the first time in 2021 remotely on Monday, Jan. 11. Four council members will be sworn in and the council will undergo its annual reorganization. 2:11 pm, Jan. 10, 2021 ×
WILLMAR Four council members will be sworn in at the start of the Willmar City Council meeting, to be held remotely at 7 p.m. Monday.
Returning councilor Julie Asmus, along with newly elected councilors Michael O Brien, Justin Ask and Thomas Butterfield will be given the oaths of office.
The council will also complete its reorganization, including electing the mayor pro tempore, making committee appointments and designating the official newspaper.
Communication and trust issues continue to hold the Willmar City Council back
The Willmar City Council continues to grapple with miscommunication, distrust and power struggles. Recent meetings have brought some of the issues back into focus. WILLMAR As the city of Willmar tries to complete major plans, such as a new city hall and the projects funded by the local option sales tax ,along with continuing to provide services the residents require and expect, concerns continue to fester about the Willmar City Council s ability to work together.
