South Sudan Authorities Struggle to Stop Road Attacks - New Delhi Times - India s Only International Newspaper

May 15, 2021 Share Nongovernmental organizations, civil society activists and civilians are calling on South Sudan’s government to find a way to stop rampant attacks by unknown gunmen on major roads after three more deadly road ambushes occurred this week. In the deadliest attack, five civilians were killed and two others injured in an ambush on the road between the towns of Yei and Kaya on Wednesday. Also Wednesday, an aid worker was killed on a road in Eastern Equatoria state. And Thursday, four bodyguards of the Central Equatoria state governor were shot and killed while traveling on the road between Juba and Yei.

‘Covid-19 cases reduce, remain vigilant’-health ministry The ministry of health has said there has been a marked reduction in Covid-19 cases in South Sudan but warned that people should not drop their guard and must continue following preventive measures.  The national Covid-19 incident manager, Dr. Richard Laku, this morning told Radio Tamazuj that the country had come out of the second wave of coronavirus and is now registering a low rate of infections. “In the last 24 hours, we have recorded 5 cases. Now we have a total of 10,800 positive cases with 115 death cases so far with 10,700 recoveries. In the last two weeks the recorded positive cases have reduced because we have come out of the second wave,” Dr. Laku said.
