The coronavirus pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the restaurant industry in Sacramento.  But one new Italian fine-dining restaurant opening this spring in East Sacramento is hoping to become a signature destination while honoring the history of its location and its staff. June Chang said he hopes his new restaurant, Mattone Ristorante, will be open for business in early April 2020. Located at 5723 Folsom Blvd., the site itself was the former home to go-to Italian family-restaurant “Español,” which succumbed to the pandemic after more than 50 years of business in East Sacramento.
