The fall 2020 third anime season of
Osmatsu-san is getting its home video releases scheduled and it’s got a solid plan. The first half of the was series was scheduled with a twelve-episode season done up by a four-volume Japanese release with both DVD and Blu-ray editions coming out. With the second cour now solicited, we have a look at the artwork for the second volume that’s due out on January 22nd, 2021. The DVDs are priced at 5,800 yen while the Blu-rays are at 6,800 yen. Based on the manga by Fujio Akatsuka that ran from 1962 to 1969 and had a couple of revivals along the way, it had an adaptation in the mid 60′s and then a remake in the late 80′s. This series is serving as a sequel to it with the same animation studio from the 80′s involved, albeit with a new creative team. The original series focused on the six kids when they were young but this one takes a look at them as adults now and how their lives turned out.
It’s weird that we’re getting SDBD editions, even at that price, but it’s one way to get more of it out into the market that can try and bring in casual fans at a good price for that much content.
The series was directed by Mitsuru Hongo at Toei Animation based on scripts by Hiroyuki Yoshino and character designs by Toshihisa Kaiya, who is also handling the animation director duties. Kenji Kawai has surfaced again to provide the score for the series.
The Japanese cast includes Yuuki Kaji as Osamu Mikumo, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Rie Kugimiya, Jun Fukuyama, Hideyuki Tanaka – Replica, Nao Tamura as Chika Amatori, Tomo Muranaka as Yuma Kuga, Yuichi Nakamura as Yuichi Jin, Rie Kugimiya as Kirie Konami, Jun Fukuyama as Kyōsuke Karasuma, Tomoaki Maeno as Reiji Kizaki, Keiji Fujiwara as Takumi Rindō, Takeshi Kusao as Masafumi Shinoda, Masakazu Morita as Shūji Miwa, Kana Hanazawa as Ai Kitora and Nobuhiko Okamoto as as Jun Arashiyama.
