With a new defensive coordinator comes changes, and that could mean the end of one unique position for Michigan.
The “viper” linebacker became synonymous with the Wolverines’ man-press scheme in recent years, first popularized by Hesiman Trophy finalist Jabrill Peppers in 2016. Then-coordinator Don Brown wanted a linebacker who could do it all blitz the quarterback, play the traditional role and drop back in coverage to disrupt the passing game.
