Irving’s Nimitz High School junior Ximena Zamarron has earned a spot on Mexico’s Junior National Softball Team.
Zamarron, who plays shortstop, traveled to Anaheim, California, to try out in February and April before learning she made the elite team.
“I’m really proud that I did it,” Zamarron said in an article published by the school district. “It means the most to me knowing that I get to represent my great grandparents, grandparents and my Mexican heritage.”

The training center offers three different ranges, and works with a wide variety of archery enthusiasts.
Elevate gymnasts qualify for regional competitions

Community snapshot: For the first time, New Mexico USA gymnastics was approved to host a state meet virtually for levels 7-10, the highest levels of women s Junior Olympic gymnastics. Elevate Gymnastics & Athletics hosted a state meet for Level 7 and 8 gymnasts March 27-28. Each of the seven gymnasts that competed in the-all-around qualified for the regional championships. Representing New Mexico at Level 8 are Maija Noopila (age 15, Las Cruces High) and Mila Noopila (13, Zia Middle) who will compete in Overland Park, Kansas on April 24-26. Representing New Mexico at Level 7 are Rylie Barrios (12, Picacho Middle), Aymara Bustos-Cadena (13, Sierra Middle), Shaelyn McCleery (16, Mesilla Valley Christian School), Alex McGuinn (16, Las Cruces High), and Riley Moulton (15, Arrowhead Park Early College High) who will compete in Aurora, Colorado on April 30 to May 2.
