FREEPORT – Richard John Gilman, 81, of Freeport, formerly of Wallingford, Conn., passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021.
Richard was born in Meriden, Conn. on Oct. 18, 1939, the son of Veronica S. and Wilfred G. Gilman Sr. He lived most of his life in Wallingford and attended Holy Trinity School. Richard and his family moved to Vermont during his high school years. He graduated from Black River High School in Ludlow, Vt., and went on to attend Vermont Technical College in Randolph. During his years in Vermont, his family owned a chicken farm. Richard worked the family farm for over six years while attending school and cared for the chickens daily, helping to raise over 40,000 chickens annually.
THE education it provides is already said to be first class, and now a Bolton-based academy trust has officially been recognised as one of the best places in the UK to work. Vantage Academies Trust, which governs SS Simon and Jude’s CE Primary School in Great Lever, received a glowing report in the influential Best Companies to Work for 2021 achieving he highest three star rating, making it a ‘world class’ organisation to work for. The trust was named the 51st best large company to work for in the UK; the seventh best education and training company to Work for in the UK; and the 37th best company of any size to work for in the North West.

The Knights of Columbus Council 10183 of St. Jude Church in Columbiana will be holding a pulled pork drive-thru dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. or until sold out May 19 at St. Jude Church, 180 7th St. Cost is $8 and includes pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, corn bread and dessert.
