As parents push for more transparency from the New Hanover County Board of Education, a few believe their solution is a simple fix to bring community engagement and understanding.
Sandy Eyles said she’s hoping board members will bring up a discussion during the July meeting on beginning to release meeting agenda documents earlier. While board members should receive these documents five days before the scheduled meeting, per district policy, Eyles said she’s struggled to access the documents up until just hours before the meetings at times.
“As a community member, we desperately want transparency from our board,” Eyles said. “One way to do that is for us to have access to these materials, which are public record, in a reasonable amount of time so that if we have any questions, we can address them to the board before the meeting.”
