Sydney Lee Connector Editor Colombian artist Maluma experiments with reggaeton’s roots on his latest album “#7DJ.” Born as Juan Luis Londoño Arias, the 27-year-old artist timed the release of his surprise mini-album with his birthday on Jan. 28. The album’s name stands for “7 Dias en Jamaica” and pays tribute to Maluma’s seven-day trip to Jamaica. The album is his artistic exploration of reggaeton’s roots which he executes through seven songs and music videos that blend island reggae and exuberant dancehall sounds with his own urban Latino style.

January 29, 2021 Maluma is continuing to rip up the rule book when it comes to releasing new music by releasing new album ‘#7DJ’ (‘7 Days in Jamaica) to celebrate his 27th birthday. The visual album, which comes only 5 months after ‘Papi Juancho’, consists of seven interconnected songs and videos as Maluma explores the heart of Jamaica, letting go of the trappings of fame and connecting with a new reality, renewed by the Island through its people, music, and spirit of freedom. The album features collaborations with Jamaican artists Ziggy Marley and Charly Black. It incorporates traditional Jamaican musicians and live instruments (trumpets, saxophone, bass, drums).
