Jermall Charlo watched closely from beginning to sudden end as Canelo Alvarez dominated Billy Joe Saunders. The two faced off last night at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas in a super middleweight unification bout.
Although the British product expressed an enormous amount of hubris heading into their showdown, Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) simply smiled as he warned Saunders that a beating unlike anything he’s witnessed was about to take place. Staying true to his words, Alvarez did just that as he shattered the right orbital bone of Saunders and forced him to remain on his stool for the beginning of the ninth round.

Showtime’s June 19th Jermall Charlo vs. Juan Macias Montiel card already had one solid undercard bout to make up for the awful main event, and now it looks like it’s got at least two. ESPN’s reliable Fernando Barbosa reports that IBF #2 lightweight contender Isaac Cruz will take on former super featherweight champ Francisco “Bandido” Vargas.
BoxRec also lists an interesting super bantamweight clash between former champ Angelo Leo and recent title challenger Aaron Alameda, two-time Olympic quarterfinalist Gabriel Maestre against 19-0 Cody Crowley in the former’s fourth pro fight, and Kudratillo Abdukakhorov against Argentina’s Cesar Miguel Barrionuevo. though I’ve been unable to find confirmation of these bouts.

Chris Eubank Jr showed glimpses of the methodology of Roy Jones Jr during his return against Marcus Morrison on Saturday, as he looks to reach his potential this year.
Eubank Jr put on a convincing display against a game and tough Morrison, who more than held his own, but was ultimately beaten widely on the cards.
The Brighton man had his opponent hurt in the second round and pinned to the ropes, but instead of looking to close the show he opted instead to box his way to a ten round decision and bank the rounds in his first fight, since a two round win over Matt Korobov in December 2019 and under the tutelage of the former four-weight world champion.

Showtime’s June 19th main event between Jermall Charlo and Juan Macias Montiel may be hot garbage, but the co-main looks fun. Julius Julianis reports that power-punching Uruguayan prospect Amilcar Vidal will meet young veteran Immanuwel Aleem in an intriguing middleweight crossroads match.
The 25-year-old Vidal (12-0, 11 KO) has ended 10 of his 12 pro fights inside of two rounds, but his opposition has yet to graduate past prospect fodder even if a few of them had similarly fluffy unbeaten records. Aleem (18-2-2, 11 KO), out of action since a December 2019 majority decision loss to Ronald Ellis, represents a considerable step up in class, having notably stopped then-unbeaten Ievgen Khytrov and fought Matt Korobov to an (admittedly bogus) draw.

SHOWTIME have announced a dreary exhibition of retired boxer versus Youtuber, putting Floyd Mayweather together with Logan Paul for a June 6 pay-per-view in Miami. It continues the worrying trend of novelty boxing.
But beyond that, Showtime nevertheless do have a good roster of actual fights coming up. Even as the sport waits and hopes for the biggest fight, Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury to actually get made, Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime have announced a solid schedule that proves there’s more to life than the heavyweight division.
