Jan. 30, 1941: Betty Jones was elected president of the junior high girls’ Hi-Y when 40 members met with Rebecca Moyers, sponsor. Other officers are Lou Watson, Jean Lindsey, Norma Eiring, Jennie Gares, Betty Joe Smith, Patsy Nell James and Mary Jane Stucker. Jan. 30, 1961: Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars who formed a Bucket Brigade for March of Dimes Collection were Levi Dickerson, E.P. O’Neal, Wilfred Spoener, Clarence Rogers, Tito Trevino, Fred Shipman and Jeff Hutcheson.
Jan. 30, 1981: The completion in another week of a customer parking area adjacent to J.C. Penney, 425 Broadway, will furnish an additional 60 parking spaces in the downtown area.

The Lawyerâs Title Building at 209 W. Washington Street has a long history in downtown Rensselaer. The original building may go back to 1881, but a fire in the 1920âs altered the building in what was then the Ellis Opera House.
According to my notes, it has also housed Ben Fendigâs Shoe Store, Porterâs Menâs Clothing Store, Homer Hendriksonâs Grocery, John Michaelâs Grocery Store, and the JC Penney Store, then a JC Penney Catalog Store was next door.
The building was purchased by Scott Lucero from the Grow and Hoover families in 1995. In 1997, construction began by totally gutting the building, and it has been renovated inside and out.
JCPenney is partnering with the Apparel Impact Institute (Aii)
JCPenney has partnered with the Apparel Impact Institute (Aii) to improve its supply chain sustainability performance related to energy, water, and chemicals in 2021 and beyond.
Aii is a strategic partner of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), an industry collaboration of leading brands and retailers. Its Clean by Design programme helps SAC members like JCPenney, Target, Gap, and Levi Strauss provide strategic suppliers with subsidised environmental engineering support to improve energy efficiency and transition to more sustainable fuel sources, such as biomass and solar energy. Programme costs are shared between Aii, the company, and the supplier, highlighting the collaboration and collective investment needed to create a positive impact and move the apparel and textile industry forward.
Kohl’s is rising early Monday after an upgrade from
UBS, which argued that the department-store chain will be able to compete more effectively because of the industry changes brought about by Covid-19.
Analyst Jay Sole raised his rating on Kohl’s (KSS) to Neutral from Sell and nearly tripled his price target to $42 from $15. In a Jan. 11 note, he wrote that the pandemic’s shakeout of the retail landscape allowed the company to win its new partnership with LVMH Moët Hennessy-Louis Vuitton’s (LVMH.Italy) Sephora cosmetics chain. He said that will prove to be “transformative,” an opinion other analysts share as well.
