FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) â Gov. Andy Beshear warned that Kentucky may be in another plateau when it comes to COVID-19 cases after weeks of declines, and that the dominant variant of the coronavirus is targeting the younger population. Â
During a Monday press briefing from the Capitol, the governor said while Kentucky has leveled off in new cases, at least four other states are seeing increases, due to what has become known as the UK Variant since it was first identified in the United Kingdom.
âWhat weâre unfortunately seeing is that they are infecting more young people,â he said. âThose young people are getting really sick, and hospitalizations for younger Americans are going up. None of us want that, so what do we do? Number one, until we win, continue to wear that mask and make sure youâre doing the right things. Number two, get vaccinated as quickly as possible.â

Janssen Covid 19 Vaccine Phase 3 trials CAP Vials of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, developed by the company’s vaccines division, Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
State leaders around the Ohio Valley will temporarily have fewer doses of COVID-19 vaccine to distribute following the
Food and Drug Administration’s decision Tuesday to pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Regional officials gave no indication that they will have shortages of vaccines as a result, but the pause on the Johnson & Johnson “one dose” vaccine could complicate efforts to inoculate hard-to-reach populations.
FDA officials paused use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine out of “an abundance of caution” while they are investigating six cases of blood clots among the estimated 7 million people who have received the vaccine.
