The pandemic has hit TransLink hard, with sharply declining parking and fuel taxes and lower fare revenue.
In its budget presentation to the board in December, TransLink declared: In developing the 2021 budget, TransLink s paramount focus is on cost efficiences and cost reductions while also delivering the service and commitments to the region.
But one of the regional transportation s budget-cutting measures the elimination of some bus stops has run into opposition from transit users.
When nearly one-third of the bus stops along the Macdonald Number 2 route were eliminated last year, more than 100 people declared their opposition to this.
It came down to a 7-2 vote, with NPA councillor Colleen Hardwick and COPE councillor Jean Swanson in opposition, Green Party councillor Pete Fry abstaining, and independent councillor Rebecca Bligh absent.
Pennyfarthing Development’s initial proposal in 2018 containing 66 condominium homes was approved by city council in March 2019, but those plans were cancelled soon after, and a revised application with 100% rental housing tenure with 90 units was submitted in August 2020. The density, height, and overall architectural design by Raymond Letkeman Architects remains the same.
The secured market rental unit mix is 21 studios, 37 one-bedroom units, and 32 two-bedroom units.

There will be 270 hotel rooms and 168 condominium homes. The strata unit mix is 99 one-bedroom units, 46 two-bedroom units, and 23 three-bedroom units. Additionally, 10 artist live-work studios will be incorporated.
Hotel guests and strata residents will share some of the building’s amenities, such as a fitness gym. Residents will also have their own indoor and outdoor amenity space on the condominium tower rooftop.
