New and departing ministers react to latest Cabinet appointments

Newly appointed Health Secretary Humza Yousaf and outgoing minister Fiona Hyslop reacted on Twitter NEWLY appointed Cabinet ministers and departing members of Nicola Sturgeon’s top team gave their reactions following the First Minister’s post election reshuffle. Former SNP deputy leader Angus Robertson, who returned to frontline politics after being elected as MSP for Edinburgh Central on May 6, is among the new faces in the Scottish Government. Robertson (below) is taking on the key role of Constitution Secretary, succeeding Michael Russell, who stood down from Holyrood ahead of the election. He will also be responsible for culture and external relations.

MSPs approve Sturgeon’s new Cabinet despite Lib Dem objection to Robertson Updated: 20/05/2021, 3:47 pm MSPS gave their seal of approval to the new ministers (Andrew Milligan/PA) Holyrood has backed the appointment of Nicola Sturgeon’s new Cabinet, despite an attempt by the Liberal Democrats to remove Angus Robertson. The Scottish Parliament gave its seal of approval to the new Government ministers in a vote on Thursday. The Lib Dems objected to Mr Robertson being appointed as a minister, saying they do not support the role of Constitution Secretary. However their motion failed to gain the backing of any other parties and it was defeated in a vote by 70 to four.

Photo Colin Mearns A BID by the LibDems to block Angus Robertson from becoming a member of Nicola Sturgeon s Cabinet failed after Holyrood backed the appointment. The Scottish parliament gave its seal of approval to the new Scottish Government ministers in a vote on Thursday. The LibDems objected to Robertson being appointed as a minister, saying they do not support the role of Constitution Secretary. However their motion failed to gain the backing of any other parties and it was defeated in a vote by 70 to four. Robertson, a former leader of the SNP s Westminster group, returned to frontline politics when he was appointed as the Scottish Government s Constitution Secretary on Wednesday.
