Thousands of Christians in Nigeria have been kidnapped and hundreds killed in the first four months of 2021, the
Tablet reported Wednesday.
The
Tabletcites a dangerous “escalation” in targeted violence against Nigeria’s Christian population, in what watchdog groups are calling a Christian genocide in the country.
The Nigerian-based Int’l Society for Civil Liberties & Rule of Law (Intersociety), a human rights group, reported this month that Islamic jihadists massacred 1,470 Christians in the first four months of 2021 and abducted over 2,200.
The 1,470 Christian deaths in just four months exceeded the total number of Christians killed in 2019, estimated at 1,350, the report said.

Nigeria Fields Rumors, but No Proof, that Islamic State Killed Boko Haram Leader
24 May 2021
Widespread rumors erupted this weekend that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau died in an Islamic State attack on his group. As of Monday, the Nigerian government has not confirmed the rumors and experts are analyzing audio, allegedly of Shekau, emerging shortly after his alleged demise.
Terrorism experts believe that Shekau took over Boko Haram in 2009 and has pioneered some of the terrorist group’s most successful tactics, including mass kidnappings of girls and young women and the use of children as suicide bombers. Shekau has “died” on several occasions, declared dead in military ambushes and government operations multiple times only to resurface on videos mocking the Nigerian government.
