BOSTON â Massachusetts Republicans have their first official 2022 candidate for governor â and itâs not Gov. Charlie Baker.
Geoff Diehl, a former GOP state representative from Whitman, announced Sunday that he is running for the stateâs top political office.
Diehl, who launched an unsuccessful challenge to Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2018, revealed the decision on a website that outlines a series of policy steps he would push for, if elected â including lower taxes, help for small businesses and opposition to new regulations aimed at police.
âIt is time for a new path forward,â Diehl said in a statement. âIt is time to re-empower the individual. It is time to free our economy. It is time to help our children overcome the damage inflicted by government over this past year.â
First Republican Enters Massachusetts Governor’s Race
Former Massachusetts state Rep. Geoff Diehl (R) on July 4 announced his bid for Massachusetts governor, becoming the first major Republican candidate to enter the race.
“Geoff Diehl is a former State Representative from Whitman whose hard work on behalf of Massachusetts taxpayers has saved residents across the state from having to pay billions of dollars in new taxes,” Diehl’s campaign website said.
“He is also a small business owner, married for 25 years, and father of two teenage daughters. Geoff knows this state from both the public and private sector, and wants to bring all of his experience to work for the people of Massachusetts.”
