One year after coming into force, the national security law in Hong Kong has brought back peace and stability and created conditions for the global financial hub gripped by violence and vandalism in 2019 to forge ahead and open a new chapter.   The following are facts and figures about the effectiveness of the law since it was implemented on June 30 of last year:   The number of crimes dropped about 10 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2021, compared to the 9.2-percent and 6.8-percent increases in 2019 and 2020, respectively.   As illegal and violent activities were curbed, more than 70 percent of respondents in Hong Kong were satisfied with the effectiveness of the national security law, according to a survey by local think-tank Bauhinia Institute in June.
