Sign Up The resignation of Scotland’s top prosecutor could reignite the campaign for a fatal accident inquiry (FAI) into the mid-air RAF Tornado jet crash over the Moray Firth in 2012. Moray-based campaigner Jimmy Jones confirmed he would make a new submission to the Crown Office in his long-running battle for a probe, once a successor had been appointed to replace the outgoing lord advocate, James Wolffe. He said Mr Wolffe and his team had been a “major stumbling block” in his bid for a court hearing on the tragedy, which claimed the lives of three RAF Lossiemouth crew.

Bolton s other railway that served Great Moor Street station

Professor Paul Salveson is a historian and writer and lives in Bolton. He is visiting professor in ‘Worktown Studies’ at the University of Bolton and author of several books on Lancashire history You’d have to be of a certain age to remember Bolton’s ‘other’ railway, which ran from Great Moor Street station, now part of Morrison’s car park. It was the terminus for two lines – the Leigh and Kenyon Junction line, via Chequerbent, and the route to Manchester via Walkden and Little Hulton. The Leigh line opened as early as 1828 and pre-dates even the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The Bolton and Leigh Railway was the first ‘public’ railway in Lancashire and is of huge historical importance, engineered by George Stephenson and projected as early as 1824.

Salem motel to be bought, used as shelter for wildfire victims, homeless

View Comments With more than $4 million in funding from the Oregon Community Foundation s Project Turnkey, the Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency is poised to purchase a Salem motel and reimagine it as transitional housing for people displaced by last year s wildfires and the chronically homeless.  Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency Executive Director Jimmy Jones said the agency is looking to buy the 80-room Super 8 motel on 1288 Hawthorne Ave. NE and seeking a total of $5.95 million in funding.  The site is set to open in late summer.  “We are really excited about the possibility of expanding our ability to serve our broader community with much-needed transitional housing,” Jones said. “Funding that we’re seeking would be used to purchase and upgrade a local motel to provide appropriate support for Santiam Canyon fire survivors.”

TinCaps suffer first loss of season | Full Count

TinCaps suffer first loss of season DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette The TinCaps lost for the first time in 2021 tonight, letting an early lead slip away in the first really rough inning of the season for the Fort Wayne pitching staff. The 6-3 loss to West Michigan that kept the TinCaps from improving to 3-0 for the first time since 2013 seemed of lesser importance, however, after watching right-hander Anderson Espinoza make his triumphant return to the mound. Espinoza, pitching for the first time in more than 1,700 days, was lights-out, throwing 17 strikes among his 26 pitches, touching 97 mph with his fastball and locating his off-speed pitches. He struck out three in two shutout innings, walking none and giving up only a broken-bat flare single. It was the latest step on his long recovery after two Tommy John surgeries in four seasons.

ODOT grant will provide needed pedestrian bridge

Photo by Angela Shepherd A pedestrian bridge on the west end of Greenfield has been discussed over the last couple years, but now instead of it being a matter of how to make it happen, it’s a matter of when it will happen since a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation will make it possible. There is currently no way to cross a small creek beyond the Greenfield Branch Library and Greenhills Village Apartments without walking across a narrow vehicle bridge. It is a dangerous, but despite the lack of pedestrian-friendly places to walk or bike, there tends to be a good bit of foot and bicycle traffic in the area. Additionally, the foot and bike traffic will likely be compounded after Highland County Community Action recently opened
