Daughter s tribute to popular Herefordshire country singer

A DAUGHTER has paid tribute to her father, best known for touring village halls in Herefordshire with his band over three decades, who has died aged 88. Bert Cooper, of Whitestone, near Hereford, sang with Cooper s Country, Country and Western family band and played in almost every village hall during the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s, his daughter Julie Laycock said. She added: Bert was known for his Jim Reeves like singing voice. My brother, Richard played lead guitar and I sang in the band and we had many, many memorable times. One great night to remember was the night the band played at the opening of the new Withington Village Hall in October 1999.
