Archdiocese of Chicago to close 4 schools, consolidate several South Side and suburban parishes

Tyler LaRiviere/Sun-Times The Archdiocese of Chicago announced this week it will close four suburban Catholic schools and consolidate several parishes on the South Side and in nearby suburbs. The schools closing are: Sacred Heart School in Melrose Park; St. Ann School in Lansing; and St. Joseph School in Summit. The closures take effect June 30, the archdiocese said in a statement. “Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, made the difficult decision to close the schools based on their low and steadily declining enrollment levels and large financial deficits,” the archdiocese said, noting a combined 31% decrease in enrollment over the last four years and a $1.12 million combined deficit during the current school year.
