Edmonton Oilers claim goalie Alex Stalock off waivers -- a wise, wise, wise move

My take 1. This is sharp move by the Edmonton Oilers, as there is no goalie in the organization who is ready to step in if either Mikko Koskinen or Mike Smith get injured. 2. To hold on to Stalock, Edmonton will have to keep waiving forwards who are outside the Top 12, but with the Top 12 solidified now that Jujhar Khaira and Gaetan Haas have stepped up as third and fourth line centres, this isn’t such a chore. Players like Kyle Turris, Joakim Nygard, Devin Shore, Patrick Russell and James Neal will have to be waived regularly as they go in and out of the line-up but none of them are likely to be claimed by another team. And if one of them is claimed, it’s not the end of the world. Not having an NHL quality starting goalie, on the other hand, just might be the end of the world when it comes to Edmonton’s playoffs aspirations.

Musk claims SpaceX Starlink internet speed will double this year

“Speed will double to ~300Mb/s and latency will drop to ~20ms later this year,” said Musk on Monday, Feb. 22, in a tweet responding to a user who showed speed tests ranging from 77 to 130 Megabits per second (Mbps). Currently, Starlink routers reach speeds between 50 and 150 Mbps. But some users have reported speeds well above that level – one user even reported speeds going up to 215 Mbps. Starlink growing in speed and coverage In a succeeding tweet, Musk said the satellite internet service would reach customers around “most” of the Earth by 2021 and complete global coverage would be achieved by next year.

MATHESON: Ten takeaways from Oilers first 20 games of season

Life is good 20 games into the 56-game schedule. How good? Let us count the ways. 1. McDavid vs Auston Matthews for the Hart Trophy McDavid is on pace for 104 points, Matthews for 56 goals. And while McDavid dodged a Saturday question about whether he pays attention to what his friend Matthews is doing, you bet he does. Gretzky always kept tabs on Mario Lemieux. Matthews had four points in the second period against Montreal Saturday, and McDavid went out and had five in half a game against Calgary. So take that. McDavid has figured in 51.4 per cent of Oilers goals (37 of 72). After his five points against Calgary, he has seven now, with only Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri (10) and Paul Coffey (eight) ahead of him.
