EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. It might seem like the New York Giants overloaded on offensive weapons this offseason as they continued their roster makeover. It was clearly a priority for general manager Dave Gettleman, who seemed to be working from a lengthy to-do list.
Item 1: Spend big for a No. 1 receiver who operates on the outside and can make contested catches Kenny Golladay, check.
Item 2: Take a low-risk flier on a world-class speedster and former first-round pick John Ross, check.
Item 3: Grab an inline tight end who is an excellent red-zone target Kyle Rudolph, check.
Item 4: Add some running back insurance with a consistent, productive veteran Devontae Booker, check.
The Back Nine comes at you after a perfect day for The 26th Bob Dooley Invitational and a nice day for baseball that followed except for the lack of clutch hitting. Sorry there was no Front Nine last week, but the tournament kind of took precedent.
10. I feel like I just won an Oscar because there are so many people to thank and I know I’ll forget some. Over the past few years I have studied the month of May and decided that weather-wise it seemed like the perfect month for our tournament. And then it turned out to be just that. I was not sure what the day itself would be like in terms of participation and people just cutting loose, but they certainly did. It’s after midnight, and there’s an AR-15 assault rifle in the backseat of Kadarius Toney’s two-door white Chevy sedan. Toney is scared. They scared the man off once with airsoft guns painted to look real. But what if that didn’t work the next time he showed up at their dorm?
Everything you need to know about Giants’ No. 1 pick Kadarius Toney
“Play-maker” is the word that talent evaluators keep coming back to
Kadarius Toney was recruited to Florida as a quarterback with a rocket arm and play-making wheels that made him a dual threat. He could throw the ball 70 yards in the air; some reports have suggested 80.
Toney even skipped his high school prom to enroll in Florida’s Spring Quarterback School under then-coach Jim McElwain. He electrified Gator Nation with an improvised touchdown pass and a game-high 74 yards rushing in Florida’s spring intra-squad game.
David Morris runs QB Country, which is based in Mobile, Ala. If you remember the name, it’s because Morris trains New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones during the offseason. He was a college teammate of Eli Manning, and worked at times with Manning during his Giants career.
