Case Continues For Newhall Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of A Peace Officer The man accused of shooting a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy in Newhall in 2017 returned to court Thursday, only to have the setting for his preliminary hearing pushed to next month. Monolito Guerra, of Newhall, who was 29 at the time of the crime, allegedly shot and wounded Deputy Albert White at an apartment complex on Bottletree Lane on Nov. 28, 2017. A woman had called authorities to report that someone pointed a gun at her as she was getting out of her vehicle, LASD officials reported. Deputies also learned that there was possibly a second suspect involved.

District Attorney George Gascón received an unusual proposal from Sheriff Alex Villanueva: The sheriff wanted to create a joint task force with the DA to fight government corruption and target dirty politicians. The mission of [the task force] is to develop meaningful and productive investigatory relationships among our detectives and deputy district attorneys, who are charged with investigating public corruption, said a draft memorandum of understanding written by the Sheriff s Department and obtained by LAist. It argued the task force would serve as a force multiplier. The memo said the DA would chair the group and it envisioned other law enforcement agencies joining. Participants would brief each other on sensitive cases they were working on, it said.
