WARREN, Mich. – A mishap on the streets of Warren sent Mayor Jim Fouts to the hospital.
Fouts shared pictures on social media of the injuries he sustained after hitting an elevated sidewalk.
And he wants them fixed.
“When you’re jogging, you’re running pretty fast and therefore when you hit it, you’ve got some force and you go forward, so my face took the brunt of the fall,” he said.
After going to the hospital, Fouts posted on Facebook he was even “more sensitive to residential complaints” about bad sections of sidewalks, saying “I spoke with the city engineer and Department of Public Works director and asked them to work on these sidewalks ASAP!”

WARREN A “bad landlord” with dozens of outstanding tickets for blight at several properties was reportedly arrested by Warren police on July 8 after a “24-hour stakeout” at a rental home on Hudson Avenue, west of Van Dyke Avenue.
“This chronic out-of-state landlord is a resident of Cleveland, Ohio,” Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said.
Announcing the arrest on Facebook, Fouts added, “His homes are despicable and clearly blighted!”
According to the mayor, the man had 69 outstanding tickets related to allegedly blighted homes over the last three years. Violations of the International Property Maintenance Code were also cited.

Warren debates creating a walkable downtown
WARREN, Mich. – Creating a downtown for the city of Warren has been discussed for years, but now there are actual renderings.
The city has selected a developer out of Indianapolis and a planner out of Birmingham. A plan was presented to the Warren City Council Thursday night.
It includes a Marriott Tribute Hotel, 500 apartments with rent starting at $1,125 a month, 20 shops and dining. It also includes what Mayor Jim Fouts referred to as a Papa Joe’s-type market. It would be built up around Warren City Hall.
Fouts told the council that he envisions an upscale development that would be a destination. The cost would be $140 million from the developers, but the city would have to bond out for $30 million to be repaid over 20 years.
