WITH lockdown easing, Lisburn city centre is back in business with 11 new firms opening and seven being radically revamped, resulting in the preservation of 16 roles and creation of 28 additional jobs to date.
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has been working with a number of local entrepreneurs to get their business ideas off the ground.
And with a total investment of £340,000, the council’s Urban Investment Fund, delivered in partnership with the Department for Communities, has benefitted 18 businesses.
One of the first new businesses to open is The Running Bubble, a stylish sports footwear outlet in Lisburn Square. Also new to Lisburn Square is the Geek Retreat, while Blush beauty salon has opened in Market Place.
WEST PEORIA For the second year in a row, West Peoria has called off its Fourth of July Parade.
As with last year, the pandemic prompted the cancellation. The last parade, in 2019 featuring an appearance by Gov. JB Pritzker and Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton marked its 49th anniversary. What started as a small event with a few floats blossomed into an hour-plus event boasting more than 100 entries. Thousands of observers line the parade route, especially bag-toting kids eager to scramble for candy tossed from floats.
However, the West Peoria City Council decided this week to cancel after consulting with the city s insurer and the Peoria City/County Health Department. The department s administrator, Monica Hendrickson, told West Peoria that she was wary of recent infection and hospitalization numbers related to COVID-19.

“I have dogs back in Ireland,” a smiling Murphy says in the brogue of her homeland. “But I don’t know their birthdays.”
Such random tidbits are part of the bonus education she has gleaned in Peoria, where 3,759 miles from home she attends Bradley University. It’s a team effort, as she has the assistance of two scholarships one from the school, the other the first from Peoria’s Sister City Commission plus donations from the Peoria-based Friends of Clonmel.
