Nuclear power plant demo gets green light
The office of the New York Attorney General has announced reaching a provisional agreement with Camden, New Jersey-based Holtec International and its subsidiaries regarding the decommissioning and cleanup of the Indian Point nuclear power facility, which is about 25 miles north of New York City.
The joint proposal is subject to approval by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and was negotiated by the state of New York, environmental organizations, Entergy the utility that owns Indian Point and Holtec.
If approved by the PSC, the agreement would transfer ownership of the nuclear power facility to Holtec, which would be responsible for “the swift, complete, and safe decommissioning and remediation of the facility and site,” according to the attorney general’s office. The PSC vote is schedule for May 13, with a public comment period preceding it.

By the early 1920s, James Havens, a Kodak executive living in upstate New York, had known his son mostly as an invalid. After a diagnosis of juvenile diabetes at age 15, Jim Jr. had entered adulthood as an emaciated skeleton hovering in and out of coma.
After years of desperately seeking out cures, Havens began hearing rumours of a team of Canadian doctors who were pioneering a “miracle” treatment for diabetes. Pulling on his Canadian contacts in the photography industry, Havens was able to secure several vials of the new treatment the first ever shipped to the United States just as his increasingly delirious son began to take a turn for the worst. In rare moments of clarity, the young Havens would reportedly wake up just enough to beg his doctors for death.
Edward Wahoviak
HARTFORD, Wis Edward Lee Wahoviak, 58, of Hartford, Wis., passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, at his home.
Ed was born Nov. 14, 1962, in Iron Mountain, the son of Mary Ann (Givogre) Wahoviak and the late Robert A. Wahoviak. After graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1980, he served in the U.S. Army and then earned his diesel mechanic certificate at MATC.
Ed was also known as “Farmer Grandpa” by his grandson, RJ Schoepke, because of his love for animals. RJ also called him the “cat whisperer’ because of all the feral cats Ed would trap, neuter, love and care for. Nightly he had a “cat buffet” on his front porch to make sure these cats were very well fed and taken care of, including providing shelter. He is further survived by his cat “Sweetie” who made her way not only into his heart but into his home and lap.
