Satyajit Ray, one of the world s finest directors, producers, screenwriters, and authors, was born on May 2, 1921, in Kolkata. He died on April 23, 1992. This year marks his birth centenary.
His cinematic prowess was not just limited to India, but had a global approach. Even today, Ray remains an inspiration to many filmmakers. Blending intellect and emotions while also balancing happiness and grief in storytelling, was a skill mastered by Ray.

In 1896, the
San Francisco Call described Bernard Farley, a pioneer of the Ingleside District’s old Ocean Road (today’s Ocean Avenue), as a “character of renown.”
I will admit to having a personal weakness for characters. My family history has its share of black sheep, whose actions may have been questionable, even reprehensible. The smoothing hand of time, however, has made petty thieves, town drunks, and bankrupt miners welcome eccentrics in my otherwise staid family tree. Tragedies of alcoholism, gambling addiction, and mental illness, far removed from one’s immediate exposure, do make for interesting reading.

The couple would settle on Treetops Lodge in Nyeri, placing it on the map of Kenya s most unique places to tour in the Country.
Just like the name suggests, the lodge has literally been built on top of trees and is located three-and-a-half kilometres off the Nyeri-Nyahururu highway.
