Staff at an Aberdeen hospital will help deliver care to NHS patients waiting for urgent treatments during the pandemic. BMI Albyn Hospital has confirmed it is assisting NHS Grampian, beginning this week, with its elective care. Following arrangements set out in the NHS’ Winter Preparedness Plan, private sector hospitals such as Albyn will primarily support planned urgent care and cancer treatment, including breast cancer surgery, urology and gynaecology. Four other private hospitals are helping out other boards across Scotland.

Public consultations over the future of three north-east primary schools are to be moved online due to the current lockdown. Aberdeenshire Council’s education and children’s services committee approved the consultations to be held over the relocation of the Anna Ritchie School, and another on the merger of Dales Park and Meethill Schools, all in Peterhead. The schools are proposed to be moved into the new Peterhead Community Campus, which was given the go-ahead in 2018, and the location of the site at Kinmundy approved in 2019.

Aberdeen City Council has issued more than 7,500 laptop computers to pupils so they can take part in online learning. Schools remain closed as part of the efforts to drive down the number of Covid-19 cases although the children of key workers can still attend. The local authority revealed 7,536 Chromebook devices had been handed out to give pupils access to remote learning. And on Tuesday alone 21,541 youngsters attended school virtually using the Google Classroom system.
