JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Districts across the state will soon be able to purchase cleaner-burning school buses, thanks to a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
MDEQ recently announced that it had awarded $354,700 to 15 school districts to apply to the purchase of new school buses with “more stringent pollution controls.”
“Not only will the students benefit from a cleaner school bus, but the environment will as well,” said Chris Wells, MDEQ Executive Director.

BAY SPRINGS, Miss. (WDAM) - Students, teachers and parents in the West Jasper School District can look forward to some upgrades in the near future.
Superintendent Warren Woodrow said the district is set to receive federal funds to improve the quality of education.
“The money we’re getting is coming from the federal government but it’s being administered by the Mississippi Department of Education,” Woodrow said.
Woodrow has already started brainstorming how to use the money, and one thing he’s focused on is air quality.
