What is Koo and why is the Indian government joining it? And what does it have to do with Twitter?

On Tuesday, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal shared an invite with his followers on Twitter to join a new microblogging social media site called Koo. Soon after that, several ministers and ministries, as well as the others, shared invites to join Koo.

Koo had won the AatmaNirbhar App Innovation Challenge held by the Government of India in August 2020, and boasts of the presence of key ministers including Ravi Shankar Prasad and Piyush Goyal, and former cricketers Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble, among others
