UConn men roll to victory over DePaul behind double-doubles by Tyrese Martin, Josh Carlton

UConn men roll to victory over DePaul behind double-doubles by Tyrese Martin, Josh Carlton David Borges FacebookTwitterEmail STORRS For 39 minutes on Wednesday night, UConn was clearly a better team than DePaul. For one span of 53 seconds, the Huskies looked better than just about any team in the country. It started innocently enough, just over six minutes into the second half, with a Tyrese Martin layup on a second-chance opportunity in the paint. A DePaul turnover led to a Josh Carlton inside hoop, and after DePaul’s Kobe Elvis missed a jumper, Jalen Gaffney corralled the rebound and found Martin up the floor for a powerful, two-handed slam.

UConn falls to Creighton in overtime despite 40 points by James Bouknight

UConn falls to Creighton in overtime despite 40 points by James Bouknight David Borges FacebookTwitterEmail “This,” McDermott said to the UConn coach, “is a hell of a basketball game.” Indeed, UConn’s return Big East Conference play for the first time in nearly eight years was worth the wait, highlighted by big plays and defensive stops on both sides, 13 lead changes after halftime and a sensational performance by UConn star James Bouknight. Like UConn’s last Big East contest, this one went to overtime. Unlike that battle with Providence back in March, 2013, the Huskies came up short. Despite 40 points from Bouknight, UConn squandered a four-point lead in the final 21 seconds of regulation and fell to ninth-ranked Creighton, 76-74 at Gampel Pavilion.
