Stamford faces eight weeks of disruption from Monday, when major gas main work begins.
The National Grid is carrying out a £92,000 gas main replacement project and workmen will be digging up High Street to replace about 300 yards of old metal gas pipes with durable plastic ones.

A former Republican politician charged with rioting at the US Capitol was caught admitting to his alleged actions during an event calling on the state’s governor, Gavin Newsom, to resign.
Jorge Riley, who recently resigned from the California Republican Assembly, reportedly admitted to his actions at a Recall Newsom rally at the state capitol on Sunday.
As CBS Sacramento reported, Mr Riley was recorded by a camera crew at the event saying that he “may or may not have rubbed my butt on Nasty Pelosi s desk.
“I was in there and for the most part almost nobody did anything wrong,” Mr Riley added, as he spoke alongside another accused rioter, Jeffrey Perrine, who went on to say that “I am a Proud Boy”.
Rieth-Riley Construction Co. in Gary won a national award for its work on the Indiana Toll Road.
The National Asphalt Pavement Association, a Maryland-based trade association for the construction industry, awarded Rieth-Riley a 2020 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in the construction of asphalt pavement.
The honor recognized Rieth-Riley s work on the Indiana Toll Road in Hammond last year. As part of the PUSH 2.0 project, the construction firm milled, treated and repaved 86 lane miles on the toll road that runs through northern Indiana from Illinois to Ohio.Â
Rieth-Riley worked in spring and fall on the design/build project, which also included 11 on-ramps and 16 bridges.
The complaint says, “As Castro climbed into the Capitol building, she narrated: ‘I’m going in. I’m going in. I’m going in the Capitol. We’re in. We’re inside the Capitol house. We got inside the Capitol.'”
