The Southern Steel have taken another step toward proving their credentials as title contenders, with their first win away from home of the ANZ Premiership season.
There was a sense of déjà vu to the Steel s 56-52 win over the Central Pulse in Porirua on Sunday, with the match finishing in the same scoreline as their third-round fixture in Invercargill.
However, the match played out in slightly different fashion. The Steel again started stronger, before the Pulse fought back through the second and third quarters, but ultimately fell short in the final period of play.

The
Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel opened up some breathing
space on a tight ANZ Premiership ladder by netting their
first win on the road this season.
A 56-52 win over Te
Wānanga o Raukawa Pulse at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua
has consolidated the southerners spot in third place, now
three points clear of the defending champions.
But it
took every ounce of southern fight to snatch the win in what
was a thrilling and fitting match to celebrate and open the
ANZ Premiership’s Heritage Round – the Steel and Pulse
the only two teams to have lifted the spoils in league
George Fisher will continue to serve as president of the Paris ISD Board of Trustees while Jenny Wilson will continue on as vice president after the boardâs reorganization Monday. Becki Norment will continue in her role as board secretary.
The reorganization was required after Wilson, Place 6 trustee, and Fisher, Place 1 trustee, took their oaths of office. Without any challengers in the May election, both trustees retained their seats for another term. Their terms now expire in May 2024.
Prior to reorganization, the board accepted the resignation of Place 4 trustee Mihir âMarkâ Pankaj, who was elected to the board in 2020, as he successfully sought election to Paris City Council. His resignation also triggered a need to fill his spot on the Distinguished Graduate Awards Selection Committee. Norment already serves on the committee, and she will be joined by Place 7 Trustee Bert Strom.

The Northern Stars have continued their statement start to the ANZ Premiership, claiming their fourth win in as many games with a 59-45 win over the Southern Steel.
With the two teams coming into the contest having conceded the fewest goals through the opening three rounds, the defences were expected to play pivotal roles.
While both sides made strong starts and battled out a relatively close first quarter, the platform was laid by the imposing Stars defence of goal keep Anna Harrison and goal defence Elle Temu, who combined for four intercepts and seven rebounds in the game.
