MLB teams can’t play games under protest anymore

For those of us of “a certain age,” the photo above brings back memories of Cubs manager Leo Durocher arguing with an umpire over . well, just about anything. Sometimes, depending on the situation, those arguments resulted in filing an official protest with the league, “playing the game under protest,” in the vernacular of the time.
League officials would review the protest and make a judgment. 99.9 percent of the time, the protests were disallowed. Perhaps the most famous example of a protest that was upheld was the George Brett “Pine Tar Game” in 1983, when Brett’s apparent home run was taken away because his bat was seen to have pine tar above the legal limit. The game was ordered replayed from that point on.

This week, the Los Angeles Angels designated slugger Albert Pujols for assignment, and he will most assuredly clear waivers and become a free agent soon. The three-time MVP will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and he currently has 3,253 career hits, 667 home runs, and the third-most RBI ever with 2,112.
However, at 41 years old, Pujols does not want to retire and feels he still has something left in the tank. Pujols attended Fort Osage High School and Maple Woods Community College in the Kansas City area. He was also teammates with current Royals manager Mike Matheny from 2001 to 2004 and still lives in the St. Louis area. Could the Royals bring him in?
Friday Bantering: Tellez Back?

Ben Wagner tells us that Rowdy Tellez is heading to Houston to join the club for tonight’s game. Ben is the only one posting this news, but I’d imagine he wouldn’t lie to us. Right?
It sounds like Panik will end up on the IL, but likely for a short time, not much more than the ten days (retroactive to his last game).
Rowdy had a home run and a double yesterday in the Thunder Bisons game. In three games in Trenton, Rowdy has a .300/.462/.800 line (just 13 PA). With the Blue Jays, he was hitting .183/.222/.267 before being sent down.
