Georgia Senate races: With wins for Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, Georgia hands Democrats control of the Senate

The voters of Georgia have handed Democrats control of the U.S. Senate and given President-elect Joe Biden leverage to advance his agenda through both houses of Congress.
The Associated Press projected tight wins for Georgia Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff over Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue just as thousands of disgruntled Trump supporters crammed into the streets of Washington, D.C. and eventually breached the U.S. Capitol building and clashed with police.
AP called the race for Warnock early Wednesday morning and Ossoff shortly after 4 p.m.

Liberals cheered the news this week that a statue of Abraham Lincoln had been taken down in Boston. The statue depicted Lincoln holding his hand benevolently over a liberated slave. Though paternalistic themselves, liberals had no patience for the statue, which they pronounced “harmful.” That freed slaves had helped pay for the statue didn’t impress them. While liberal esteem for Lincoln declines in Boston, it rises for Teddy Kennedy. Boston boasts an “Edward M. Kennedy Institute,” which recently honored New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his “coronavirus leadership.”
Lincoln isn’t faring much better in other liberal cities. In San Francisco, a committee of its public school district is calling for the removal of his name from a high school. The “renaming” committee is also offended by schools named after George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and various Spanish explorers.
Tuesday saw the bar set even lower, as the broadcast networks covered up the fact that both candidates invited rapper BRS Kash to headline their joint get-out-the-vote event on Monday. The problem? BRS Kash has had a long history of making sexually violent tweets that go back years. He also rewrote the lyrics of a sexually violent song for their event.

An Atlanta rapper who headlined a rally at a church this week for Democratic Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock came under fire after several tweets denigrating women and making light of rape surfaced.
“If she say stop an u still hit it from da back is it an accident or rape lol,” BRS Kash, who recently released his new single, “Throat Baby,” tweeted in 2012, according to screenshots circulating on Twitter.

Republicans criticized Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock over the selection of a hip-hop artist who headlined a campaign event Monday after a troubling screenshot emerged that appeared to be from the rapper s Twitter account.
BRS Kash, a 27-year-old rapper, had urged the crowd at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in the town of Lithonia to go out and vote, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The event was called a drive-in rally that aimed to gin up last-minute support from young voters for Ossoff and Warnock, the two Democrats seeking to unseat the state’s two Republican senators in the crucial Jan. 5 runoff.
