Unsanitized: The American Rescue Plan

Unsanitized: The American Rescue Plan Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion package for public health and economic relief from the coronavirus. This is The COVID-19 Daily Report for January 15, 2021. First Response Well we now have the Biden plan for responding to the COVID-19 crisis, which he calls the American Rescue Plan. And we can definitely say it’s big ($1.9 trillion), ambitious, and detailed. Whether it can pass into law, and how long the Biden administration will dither until finding the only strategy that can succeed, is another matter. I don’t have a lot of new thoughts beyond what I said yesterday, so let me just lay out what’s in this thing:

How the conservative minority imposes its will on the rest of us

a. an elitist, out-of-date and overly difficult to change US Constitution; b. voter suppression; and c. gerrymandering. Due to length and the complexity of the subject matter, this column will only deal with our Constitution and why it favors conservatives far beyond their numbers.  As of June, 27% of Americans identified themselves as conservative, whereas liberals were 26%. The remainder were moderates, the largest grouping.  Let’s examine the conservative demographic more closely. As would be expected, only 25% of those 18-34 are conservative, but the number rises to 41% for those over 55. There’s a big gap between college grads, 25% conservative, vs. those without college degrees at 40%.

Enemy Combatant? Giuliani Faces Arrest, Disbarment for Call to Combat Against US – Veterans Today | Military Foreign Affairs Policy Journal for Clandestine Services

The New York State Bar Association has launched an inquiry into President Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, over his actions since Election Day. The bar association announced Monday it’s investigating whether Giuliani, a former New York City mayor and U.S. Attorney, should lose his membership in the organization, citing his remarks encouraging “trial by combat” before last week’s deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol and his efforts to cast doubt on the presidential election results. NY STATE BAR ASSO., on Giuliani: This decision is historic for NYSBA, and we have not made it lightly. We cannot stand idly by and allow those intent on rending the fabric of our democracy to go unchecked.
