How DC can reduce traffic deaths and make real progress on Vision Zero

In our first post, we outlined how, six years in, DC’s Vision Zero program can only be described as a failure. While there have been some marginal improvements to the city’s transportation infrastructure, it has been nowhere near enough to slow the number of deaths on our streets in fact, they’ve been increasing. If we are going to engage in a genuine effort to eliminate traffic deaths and injuries, we need bold, system-wide solutions that tackle the District’s biggest safety concerns. We must disrupt an inequitable, environmentally unsound, and car-centered status quo.

Four vehicle thefts reported in Bethesda area

Crimes reported to Montgomery County police between April 4 and 10 By Dan Schere | April 22, 2021 Thefts from vehicles Money and property were taken from a vehicle in the 5500 block of Wisconsin Avenue around 4 p.m. on April 8. Force was reported. Parts were taken from a vehicle in the 7700 block of Wisconsin Avenue between 5:55 and 6:30 a.m. on April 7. Force was reported. Three people took money and property from multiple vehicles between April 5 and 8. Affected streets included Shaftsbury Street, Edgefield Road, Capitol View Avenue, Pratt Place, Conifer Lane, and the area of Jones Mill Road and Le Velle Drive. Property was taken from four vehicles between April 6 and 9. Affected streets included Ashley Drive, Antigua Terrace and Barbados Place. Force was reported in two cases.

A number of safety improvements including a raised median and “no turn on red” signs have been added to the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street NW, near where a 4-year-old boy was killed while trying to cross the street. West Palm Beach woman arrested in connection with 2019 fatal hit-and-run WPTV/E.W. Scripps and last updated 2021-04-18 12:02:00-04 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A West Palm Beach woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in 2019. On Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m. a crash occurred in the 7500 block of S. Dixie Highway. The victim, identified as Nelson L. Roman Rodriguez, 28, died as a result of his injuries. His wife and children were present when the crash occurred. At the time of the crash, no suspect vehicle was established. But pieces of the vehicle were found at the scene which showed it to possibly be a 2011-2016 Chevrolet Camaro.
