ALTON Alton native Lt. Jarrett Ford is now Alton Deputy Police Chief.
Ford has worked 16 years for the Alton Police Department. He grew up in Alton and graduated from Alton High School in 2000.
According to Ford, being an officer was not his original plan. In 2004 he graduated from McKendree College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance, planning to enter into the business world.
“I did go into the business world for about six months and quickly realized that it wasn’t for me,” Ford said.

ALTON In 2008, Michael A. Womack of Alton went missing without any trace.
Thirteen years later, family and friends gathered Wednesday to release balloons in his memory, hoping he will be found.
Apryll Pittman, Womack’s sister, said the family tries to get together every year to do a balloon release.
“If Michael is out there, then he knows that his family is still waiting for him,” Pittman said.
