SAN ANTONIO (AP) Texas has been tested all year, but losing senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger to a shoulder injury was an obstacle the Longhorns never anticipated.
The same spirit that pushed the team through this entire chaotic season helped the Longhorns thrive without him.
Sophomore signal-caller Casey Thompson came off the bench and passed for 170 yards and four touchdowns, and No. 20 Texas overcame Ehlinger’s injury to beat Colorado 55-23 in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Tuesday night.
Freshman running back Bijan Robinson had 183 yards on 10 carries with a TD for Texas (7-3). He was selected the bowl’s offensive MVP.

The Colorado Buffaloes (4-1, 3-1 Pac-12) will face off against No. 20 Texas (6-3, 5-3 Big 12) in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
This is the Buff s first bowl appearance since 2016, where they dropped a 38-8 decision in this same bowl to Oklahoma State.
Running back Jarek Broussard was recently awarded Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished the season second in the nation in rushing yards per game averaging 162.2. Colorado will also be without the services of their leading tackler and first team All Pac-12 performer, Nate Landman.
First-year head coach Karl Dorrell was also honored as Pac-12 s Coach of the Year

The No. 20 Texas Longhorns have one more chance to impact the story of this season. A win over the Colorado Buffaloes gets them to a 7-3 record, which is a disappointing finish but will hopefully allow Texas to create the offseason momentum they’ve had for three previous seasons.
Colorado comes into the game trying to close out a season that was more successful than anyone expected in 2020. After being picked to finish second to last in their division, the Buffaloes had a shot at playing in the Pac-12 championship game, much credit to the new coaching staff and running back Jarek Broussard.
