Govt wins Senate chairman, deputy election
ISLAMABAD: The ruling coalition candidates Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani and Mirza Muhammad Afridi were elected chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate, defeating the joint opposition’s Yusuf Raza Gilani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri on Friday.
Despite majority in the Senate, the opposition tasted two shocking back-to-back defeats: Sanjrani pocketed 48 votes while his rival Gilani received 42, as seven votes were rejected due to ‘wrong’ affixing of the stamp. The polling was conducted through secret ballot. This is Sanjrani’s second term as the Senate chairman. The PML-F Senator Muzaffar Hussain Shah was the presiding officer for the election of chairman Senate.

QUETTA: The ruling alliance in Balochistan, headed by Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Senate Chairman Mir Sadiq Sanjrani, has succeeded in convincing Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind of the PTI to withdraw his son, Sardar Khan Rind, who had filed nomination papers as an independent candidate from the province from the Senate election.
A delegation of the ruling alliance parties, led by the Senate chairman and Balochistan Awami Party president Jam Kamal, visited the residence of Sardar Rind along with BAP founder Saeed Ahmed Hashmi and asked him to withdraw his son from the Senate election.

The callous gestures of the Balochistan government, the insensible statements of the prime minister, and the dubious role of the Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) have dented the masses’ perception of the government, the MWM, and the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP).
Prior to the Mach incident in Quetta, the Hazara community supported the HDP and the MWM in the recent general elections. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, the public support for these parties is seen to be wavering at best. ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Saturday that those speaking against the Army will be taken to task.
Speaking to digital media representatives, Imran Khan said institutions are being pressured to save loot and plunder. According to a private news channel, the premier said those attacking the institutions will not be spared. He said the corrupt elements are mistaken that they can blackmail him.
