She defeats Satish Jarkiholi to become the first woman to be a Lok Sabha member from the constituency
The BJP won the Belagavi Lok Sabha bypoll by 5,240 votes. BJP candidate Mangala Angadi, wife of the former Union Minister Suresh Angadi, defeated Satish Jarkiholi, Congress nominee in a close fight.
Ms. Angadi polled 4,40,327 votes, while the runner-up [Satish Jarkiholi] obtained 4,35,087 votes. The grand total includes postal votes, votes mailed in by service voters, those cast by officers on poll duty and the disabled and COVID-19 voters.

Cleric granted bail in hate speech against girls’ education

NOWSHERA: The police on Thursday arrested a cleric for allegedly delivering a hate speech against the girls’ contemporary education after registering a case against him.
District Police Officer Muhammad Iqbal said that Mufti Sardar Ali Haqqani had delivered a ‘provocative’ speech against women education and their employment in various departments, including doctors, nurses and others. He said the cleric was arrested after a case registered against him following the video of his controversial speech went viral on social media.
The accused was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Sanam Khalid, who admitted his mistake of using derogatory words of the girls acquiring contemporary education and subsequently doing jobs in various institutions. The court granted bail to the cleric on two surety bonds.

The five men accused of the murder of the Coka brothers in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, have been granted bail.
Daniel Malan, 38, Cornelius Greyling, 26, Othard Clingberg, 58, and Michael Sternberg, 31, were arrested on April 9. A fifth suspect, Zenzele Patrick Yende, 48, was arrested on April 15.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said the men were each granted bail of R10,000 on Friday morning.
“Their case was postponed to June 30 for further investigation,” Nyuswa said.
The men were released on conditions including that they should not interfere with witnesses, that they attend court until their case was finalised, and that they must not discuss the matter with farm workers.
Taimur Jhagra secures bail in corona SOPs violation case

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Taimur Saleem Jhagra as well as owner and manager of the restaurant have got bail by submitting personal surety bonds in violation of the Covid-19 SOPs case on Wednesday.
“All three are on bail by submitting personal surety bonds,” a police official told The News.
The Sarband Police Station had lodged a case on the complaint of Assistant Commissioner Matani against the health minister for violating the corona SOPs while attending an iftar dinner at a local restaurant. The case was lodged after the pictures of the event went viral on social media. Many criticised the minister for not following the SOPs.
