El Paso police gang investigators arrested a 19-year-old man on Tuesday accused in a drive-by shooting that sent schoolchildren running for cover.
The Gang Unit arrested Jesus Soto on two counts of deadly conduct-discharge of a firearm in connection with a shooting at a home on Johnson Avenue next to Travis Elementary School in the Lower Dyer area of Central El Paso.
Two 18-year-olds were inside the home when it was struck by several shots at 11:20 a.m. on June 3 in the 3800 block of Johnson Avenue, police said.
A police news release stated that children at the neighboring school reportedly ran for cover after hearing the gunfire. There were no injuries reported.
Teen charged in drive-by shooting that sent El Paso school kids running for cover
UPDATE, June 9: An El Paso teenager has been arrested and charged in a drive-by shooting earlier this month that police said resulted in children at a nearby elementary school running for cover as the gunfire rang out.
19–year-old Jesus Soto was booked into the downtown jail on two counts of deadly conduct and was being held on $500,000 bond, police announced Wednesday.
Police gang unit investigators accuse Soto of firing multiple rounds into a home at 3813 Johnson Avenue in central El Paso on June 3 as he targeted two teens inside; neither was struck by the gunfire, which also prompted a lockout of nearby Travis Elementary School.
